5 Dangerous Beauty Hacks
Should Never Try
Everyone
loves a good beauty hack, but the truth is that there are some cosmetic
shortcuts you shouldn't try. Beauty bloggers and vloggers swear by certain
dangerous makeup hacks, and without knowing the science behind them, millions
of their fans follow suit. That spells disaster for hapless novices attempting
to paint their eyelashes with potentially carcinogenic petroleum jelly or burning
their skin with seemingly harmless toothpaste.
Most
dangerous among them are:
1. Using
Color Pencils to Line as Eyeliner
So many of
YouTubers started to make tutorials by using Crayola color pencils as eyeliner,
but do you know that the brand actually had come forward and make this
statement –
“Although
our products are nontoxic, we do not recommend using them to make eyeliner, lip
stick or other make-up, and strongly discourage their use in this manner. The
products were never intended to be used on the skin or face in this manner.”
Make-up goes
through specific and rigorous testing because it is intended to be used on the
skin. Because they were never meant to be used as make-up, our colored pencils
or crayons have not been tested in the same way and should not be used as a
cosmetic.
2. Using
Toothpaste on Acne
So many of
tried twice and thrice of this and failed all three times. It not reduces the
size of the acne and bonus it burns the whole area around it and leaves a
permanent red-purplish scar!
It’d be
better that you let your acne heal on its own rather than using hacks like
this. Some people even also prefer to use baking soda over this. But using this
kind of stuff may not be the safer option!
3. Using
Melted Crayon as Lipstick
So many
followers think that it works like a charm, but you shouldn’t be doing it!
Brands make and test makeup product in a whole lot different way. We can’t just
use anything and everything as makeup only because it says that it’s nontoxic.
4. Nail
Polish to Cover Cold Sores
Cold sores
are hard to cover, and you may be convinced by a beauty vlog to try to make
them disappear with the use of clear nail polish. Don’t believe in this. Avoid
this at all costs. According to the American Contact Dermatitis Society, clear
nail polish often contains nickel, a common allergen. It worse cold sore and may
create huge allergic reaction on your lip.
5. Swapping
Sharpie as Eyeliner
You should
never put the felt-tipped pen near your eyes. While a Sharpie may give you a
truly bold eye, the fragrance alone will make your eyes burn. Actual Eyeliner
is specially formulated to be used near your eyes, so stick with that.
